I'm beginning a new project of purchasing/fabricating a mount for my Blitz gas can.

The easiest solution is to stick it on my roof rack, but I'm hesitating putting it there for "top heavy" reasons. The mount made by my rack company (BajaRack) are nice, but I'm looking for other options.

The next idea is to attach a bracket to the existing spare tire mount that the Blitz carrier can bolt up to. Here I'm worried about the weight on the door as well as the tire mount. This would be a clean, easy solution as well, with the above cons. I saw FrankR's set up when I searched this in the archives. If you see this post, I'd like to ask how everything is holding up.
Did you modify the hinges or OEM spare tire mount?

The final, most expensive, idea is to fabricate a rear bumper with swing-away bits to receive the gas cans (since no aftermarket product is made for my Gen III).

Suggestions, ideas, opinions, pics of your rigs with gas can attachments welcomed.
