Could have been ugly.....I'm surprised he didn't have an encounter at some point gutting and/or quartering it up. The guy is a friend of a friend x3 so I might be able to get more info on this story.

North of Ketchum near Stanley I think....and yes there are many wolves up there.

Know the area well. Spent many summers in that area (Smiley Creek and Redfish Lake) as a kid. That was pre-wolf days when there were plenty of deer and elk and an occasional bear.

Cougar have always been around but rarely seen. That is one memorable shot...

I lived in Ketchum and Hailey Idaho for almost ten years. The backside of Alturas Lake was one of my favorite places to Elk hunt. I did a few remodels on the cabins above Smiley Creek lodge too. One year I remodeled a cabin during the middle of the winter. HAd to pack all the tools and materials in on a Arctic Cat. I stayed up there by myself for weeks on end....had a few chilly nights where it dipped to 32 below....The Stanley basin gets damn cold. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I also use to soak in the hot springs around there when there was ten feet of snow around....man I miss Idaho. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

That pic has been floating around the hunting forums now for a few weeks, and has been pretty well shown to have been photoshopped. I spent many years hunting those hills though, and are definitely cats up there. One elk season, we had a big female hanging on a deer kill near our camp. We hobbled our horses and every evening, we go out to round 'em up, and without fail, each night there was an extra set of eyes reflecting in the lights!
