still haven't gotten a chance to take it apart.
How hard is it to remove the oil pan with the engine installed. I just took a look at the manual and it sounds like it wants me to pull the engine, first step is to remove the hood.

Remove crossmember and a couple of front diff carrier bolts and it comes off pretty easy, at least on the 3.0. 2.6 should be the same.

oh thanks. was sounding like I'd have to lift the engine out a little ways to clear the axle.

well I got it all torn down, just about to pull the oil pan, hopefully it's not too bad in there.

Does anyone have any tricks for getting the oil pan off? I removed all the bolts but it doesn't want to come off, I assume it's just the gasket but I don' want to mess it up by prying too hard.

Plastic gift card under the gasket with carb cleaner works for me. Work it around like a putty knife and it should get it all off. Follow up with a razor blade on the engine side and a brass brush on the pan itself.
Good luck!

tap it around with a rubber mallet.
If the bearing has already spun, the crank needs to be turned or replaced.

I cut the side rail seal with a 6in1 painter/drywaller's tool, like a fancy putty knife with a paint roller cleaner halfround on the side, and a wide, edge sharp head, and a hammer. THe fsm shows a similar "special tool"...
THen I smack the side of the pan sump with a soft head hammer, or shield the metal with a piece of wood and smack that. It will pop loose.

Got the pan loose. How do I actually remove it? Seems like the motor needs to come up like 5" before the pan can clear the front axle and slide out.
