Getting the Wheeling Fever
For the past week I've been working on swapping in a 7MGE into my '94 Pickup. This is not in my comfort zone and I'm seriously learning as I go here. Spent a few weeks researching this and so far things have gone well. Managed to only bust one bolt on the 7M oil pan, had the damn air wrench set the wrong way , and haven't had too many problems finding the all random things I need to make this work. Thank God for the local pick-a-part!!! Here are the pics:

Found out that I can't just swap the pickup tube so out comes the entire pump assembly. Another trip to the pick-a-part to get the rest of the assembly out of the Cressida. Got lots more to do this week, I'll get more pictures on here soon.

BTW anyone know of a good site to source some engine mounts out of an 80's Supra/Cressida/Celica?? Last part I need are the upper mounts out of any of these cars.

Cressida you're pulling parts out of doesn't have any on it?

Might do a quick www.car-part.com search for those mounts.

New engine looks nice and clean!

That Cressida is complete, but it has the 7M engine in it and I've been told that I need mounts from either a early Supra, Cressida or Celica with a 5M in it. I don't honestly know why exactly, but the thread I'm following on this swap was very specific about this. Otherwise I'd be done parts shopping and working on assembling this badboy!! I'll give that link a try and see what they say. You know the engine is pretty clean all things considered. It's still a huge pain to clean, wishin I had a powerwasher, that'd do it!!

Roll Me Over
Are you using engine degreaser and a toilet brush?
It works pretty well for cleaning.... then just hose off...

Okay so it took about three times as long as I had hoped, but I got the engine in yesterday! Whoohooo! My plan was to have it in on Thursday and be working on connecting her up, but the guy at the clutch shop sold me the wrong clutch!! So frustrating when your ready to move forward and you have to stop because someone doesn't do their job right!! Here are some pics of where I stand.

New clutch and my trick EGR block-off plates!! Byebye EGR!!

Super tight fit, had to rotate the engine to get it down far enough to get past the top edge of the bellhousing.

Body Damage is Cool
Very Cool! I love to see the 7M getting swapped into stuff. I'd like to do it in a car with more room in the engine compartment. 7MGTE and R154 transmission into a mid-90s BMW 3 series convertible is what I'm thinking. Anyway, Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it up and running. -- Matt

Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I got a fair amount done since the last posting. I'd be much further along, but there are no more days off of work to take, so I'm getting stuff done when time allows. A fair amount of this swap is now the "little" things, like a throttle cable, heater hoses and relocating the power steering pump resivior. One of the things I'm stuck on right now is splicing in the 7mge alternator plug to the 22RE harness. They're both three wire connections, but I'm not sure what wire does what. So here I am tapping into your wealth of knowledge. Any idea?

Okay so the wiring diagram made my head spin and I had to put it down. Instead I pulled out the ol test light and hooked up the battery to see what came on and when. Some questions answered here. The white wire had power with the key off and power to the red wire was there with the key turned on. Here's the thing I can't figure there was also power running to to the yellow wire, not as much, the test light was very dim. I used a voltmeter and found that there was 12.4v to the white wire, 12.4 or so to the red wire with the key turned on and a much lower reading on the yellow one with the key on as well. Can't recall the reading on the yellow wire at this time. Can anyone help me understand this, wiring is not my thing! Thanks so much.

Should be the yellow wire is the field wire. That one energizes the field to allow the alternator to generate power.
