Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey thanks for the reply, I'm just trying not to wire this alt wrong and fry something!! I have a friend with a '88 Supra that I'm gonna take a voltmeter to and find what wire does what, then splice them in accordingly. I just want to know what these wires do so I feel more edjumacated!! The wiring for this swap is starting to make some sense now that I'm elbow deep in it!! Anyone know of a site that describes the IH1 and IH2 pinouts for a 1994 Pickup? After reading through the swap threads online I've matched up just about all the wires needed for the swap, but there are still quite a few wires on IH1 and a couple on IH2 not accounted for. I'm assuming these wires serve a purpose and I'd like to make sure I'm not missing something there. Thanks a bunch

Okay so here's a bit of an update for anyone that may be curious. I'm done, well kinda!! I got the wiring all done a week or so ago and was able to turn her over, really exciting time. Crappy thing was though, she wouldn't stay running for more then 15 to 20 seconds!! I didn't pay too much attention at the time because I still had a bunch of things to tie up. So those things all got tied up, radiator was a real pain, and I got back to wondering about that crappy idle then die problem. I hung my hat on the lack of a complete exhaust. That didn't pan out so well. The exhaust was all buttoned up a few days ago and the damn ide issue persist!! So I'm trying to find a work-around and see if I messed up wiring in the EFI main relay. Tomorrow I'm going to check the fuel pressure at the cold start injector as the manual says to, but I'm not sure how that'll go because she doesn't stay running long. It's like someone turns off the fuel supply and she just dies!! Even if I have my foot on the gas she'll just idle right down and done!! So I was curious does anyone know how I could go about wiring the fuel pump around the COR and EFI relay? I'm just thinking that if I can keep her running that way then I'll know the fuel pump isn't the issue and I can track down where I messed up the wiring.

Thanks for the response. I did this per the TSRM as a way to test if I was getting any fuel. It says in that I should "hear" the pump or "feel pressure" in the return line. I couldn't hear or feel anything. It said to turn the key to the "on" position, but did not recommend trying to start the engine with the jumper in place. Should I try that? Is there any way to wire the fuel pump to a switch setup that I could manually flip or linked to the ingnition somehow to make sure it was gonna deliever fuel? I wouldn't leave it this way, just temporary until I can find the ghost in the machine.

Okay so I rented a fuel pressure tester and hooked it up at the cold start injector per the TSRM. With the key in the "on" position I get no pressure what-so-ever. When I turn the engine over I get a good build up to about 40psi and the engine will turn over. I watched the gauge and it'll immediately start steadily dropping pressure and once it hits zero the engine dies. My hunch was right I'm not keeping pressure, but I'll get enough to get it to start. Would this be due to me not wiring the COR properly? This part of the wiring was a bit confusing to me and I was following directions of others who have had no issues like this. I'm going to retrace my steps here, but is there anything I could be missing?

Okay so after some head scratching and a little troubleshooting I found why jumping Fp and B+ on the diagnostic port wouldn't work. I failed to connect the Fp wire from the truck harness to the Fp wire on the supra harness. So I jumped the unconnected Fp wire near the ECU to a nearby B+ location and who knew I got fuel pressure. Started her up and she idled well and fuel pressure stayed constant!! So this makes me believe that I messed up the wiring described to me in the write-up I was using as a guidline. Here is my question, how dangerous would it be to temporarily run the truck with Fp and B+ jumped? I'm gonna find the issue, but I really could use my truck back in the next couple days so the wife doesn't have my head!! Any thoughts?

Alrighty here's where I stand with the swap. Last I mentioned I was having some issues with keeping her running. I found out that the second ground to the COR was not wired up proper. I ran the ground that was suppose to be wired to the green wire off the MAF to a constant ground and would ya know it she stayed running!! After that I got the radiator finished mounted, topped off all the fluids and took her for a spin. The first run she ran a bit rough, but after a bit of time she warmed up nice and ran real smooth!! It's so nice to get on the highway and run at 65 in fourth with more hp left to use. It's so nice to shift into fifth and have more acceleration on tap!! I had a bit of a hiccup day two of driving her to work. Heading home at seven in the morning after a 24 hour shift and she tried ot overheat. Jumped out and saw a waterfall of antifreeze spilling out from the back of the engine!! In my haste I didn't clearance the back firewall enough and I managed to damage one of the heater hoses coming out of the block. I guess it decided to give up the ghost that morning! So after some really close quarters work I managed to repair the connection and clearance the firewall to prevent it happening again. Other then a random t-sat failure she's been trouble free since. Over all I'm really happy with the outcome. I'm gonna post a few pics of the swap and a short video of her running of anyone who's interested. If anyone has any questions I'm more then happy to answer them if I have an answer for it. Thanks to everyone who helped with ideas or links I appreciate it.

I love the sound of those engines...

I'm sure she's singing a nice song for you!

I absolutely love the sound she makes. The exhaust note is kinda mean and she sounds real healthy. Downshifting sounds really, really nice. Here's a video, doesn't do it much justice though.

Looks like the above link will access the other pictures of the swap as well if anyone is interested in browsing through them. I'm going to post a few specific pics and a bit of a write-up on them in case anyone is interested.

So in my previous postings I went from taking the 22RE out to having the 7MGE in place. There was a fair amount of work to be done to the 7M before it could be squeezed in. Here's a bit of what I did:

[Linked Image]
This is the new oil pick-up, had to swap it due to the front sump pan swapped in.

[Linked Image]
The new pan installed with built in trail damage!!!

[Linked Image]
Even with the front sump swap I had to ditch the steering stabilizer.

[Linked Image]
This is what happens when I'm in a hurry and try using my air wrench to quickly remove all twenty plus bolts for the oil pan and forget to check if it's set to tighten or loosen!!
