Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok, here's the deal. I've just about wore out my 3rd Mitsu Montero. It's a great off road hunting vehicle but is underpowered. I tow quads and equipment and need power.
I've heard good things about the FJ Cruiser being good off road and I know it's a 4.0 but how is it towing....and would a 4.7 fit in the engine compartment? maybe an engine swap isn't necessary but I have no knowledge of it's power. Any info would be appreciated.

Bill

Roll Me Over
Drive one... they're pretty qucik.. mid 15 second quarter mile... TRD makes a supercharger kit for them, and there are many other upgrades as well... .people are hitting 300rwhp with just the s/c and 400rwhp with s/c and bolt ons / computer upgrades.
absolutely no need for a 4.7... its doesn't make much more power than a 4.0 and weighs alot more... with teh s/c, the 4.7 cant keep up....

Take one for a test drive... they have lots of balls. Way quicker than a 3.4....

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks for the info, sorry about the delay, I've been on a hunting trip. I'm going to drive one this weekend. I'm hoping it does better than my Montero pulling my trailer. The Monty drops to about 14.5 mpg towing and gets right at 20 highway NOT towing.
The Monty is excellent off road, I'm hoping the same is true for the FJ.
