Many of Home Depot drills are great for drilling wood and not a lot else. A fancy coating on cheap steel is still a crappy drill bit. I'm sure they have some good drills..

Cobalt Steel has better properties when hot. If your drilling too fast and or without enough coolant it wont dull.

I would not recommend a carbide drill. Carbide is pretty brittle and not very forgiving if it catches.
