Functionlly, that's true. But, if you're trying to compare for differences between 2 models or if 2 vehicles use the same part, the VIN helps make sure you get it right before sending a part around the world. I'd hate to pull a part off my truck, ship it to him, he waits for it to get there, tries to put it on and then it's wrong. I'm out parts for my truck and he's got useless parts. And he's got to wait that much longer. That may be pessimistic, but it happens regularly in the parts business.
