Yo guys I was putting around in my 87 raiider today, noticed smoke coming off of it not much but noticable and I was in the pasture so I stopped checked it out. Oil was getting on the header. Hop back in fire her up no gear any were...... get towed home, checked it there's a decent amount of atf dripping.

I never noticed it slipping or acting funny. It just quit. How screweds the tranny? How biig of a pita is a 5spd swap?

If I were to guess, I'd say you'd need the tranny (possibly the transfer case), x-member, driveshaft (maybe) shifter & clutch pedal assy. And it should bolt right up.

Never done one but I did stay at a holiday in express last night. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'm sure someone who's actually done one will chime in.

I have a 5spd mated to the transfer case, ECU and driveshafts from a 4cyl manual rig. No clutch pedal, although I think I still can get one. The cross member was cut to get the tranny out. Bolts were too rusted.

Had a pending local sale on the tranny but havent heard from buyer in over a week.

Was it from one of the rare hyper-miler Geo-powered rigs?

The swap isn't too bad, gonna need a hole saw to drill out a hole for the reservoir, all clutch stuff, drive shafts, and you will need to make a plate to adapt the transfer case mount to where the auto transfer case mounts to as it's off a bit. I haven't driven mine but it looks like it will drive fine with the auto brake pedal.

Got the tranny pulled with some help from a guy I met the other day who graduated from tech school for auto tech....he doesn't have much knowledge of actually doing but.... he hangs round me he will . did it in bout 5hrs from pulling it in to walking out. Pretty proud of that time

Flexplate fubar'd torque converters maybe...... didn't see any holes some of the threads were tweaked....

Best part bout this guy...... he's gonna be owning a brand new yfz450 next week..... that will stay at my house to keep my yfz350/banshee company

I'll get part numbers looked up for ya if you want, seems the flexplate is ~ 200 beans though... Looks like you'll be begging someone for their spare!
