777's Montero with the 6L might have given a high 11, low 12 1/4-mile, maybe. I think an 11-second Raider would be sweet...my work truck Ford V10, for example, at least makes the right noises. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you're concerned about having enough power, look at the later Gen II models with the 3.5 liter V6 - they are also more luxurious and quieter inside which would save you the time and trouble of the spray insulation.
I'm assuming that you meant an 11 second 1/8th mile rather than 1/4 mile - anything that turns an 11 second quarter mile is pretty darn fast and is far more likely to be at home on the drag strip rather than on the street.

Thanks guys! Don't know where Isaw that about 11s in a 1/4! After thinking about that, LOL, probably a mistake...I'm just hoping that the V6 will cruise say at 75, about how traffic goes here without being run over. Hoping too that it will go up the highway hills in the Ozarks, at 65, a 95 Pathfinder will as a reference. I'm not a hot rodder, but many times I'm first off at a light up to the spped limit 30/45.
I'm getting the Raider off the internet, it's 200 miles away, sight unseen but saw pics and had phone conversation, seller is a young guy (hmmmm?, lol)
Had a stock Jeep Wrangler, hard ride and gas guzzler, a short wheel base will be like that but hoping the Raider will be much better ride on the streets, will that be possible?
Anything you can clue me in on the 89 V-6 is very much appreciated, expense of running them is not available. 20/21 per gal is great! What repairs should be expected, it has I think 116xxx miles on it.
I hate driving 400+ miles for nothing....Thanks guys!

11's was probably an 1/8 mile figure... That's about a 17.5 in the 1/4.
The ride is good since the springs are somewhat soft and the unsprung weight in the front suspension is low.
20/21 MPG might be a bit optimistic. The vehicles weight is around 3600-3850 LBS with less than optimal wind resistance. I'm sure someone will chime in with how theirs gets 24.... My experience is 20 on a long trip at 70 MPH.
Around town 13 - 15. The EPA numbers were not all that stellar.
Stock, the V6 has good power for its size (for motors of that era), that assumes its running right.

I would be very disappointed with 13 mpg, my 4x4 F-150 gets that and I'm trying to get something more economical. The guy told be 17 and 22/24, so I guess that's his salesmanship, wonder what else his salesmanship includes? Is that 13 with a standard 5 spped? I had a 96 Astro van AWD that got 17/19.....5 mpg off might be a deal breaker for me....not good. How many miles on yours? Anyone else???

Use the EPA numbers for that era to get a good comparison. They may not be perfect but IMHO are pretty decent for just comparing. The Montero SB better than a F150. It weighs at least a 1000 LBS less and typically has a smaller engine. My experience is that a typical F150 on short trips around town should get around 11-13. web page Kevin

Your mpg in a montero is all in how you accelerate. Steady cruise, it's fine. Push it medium in city stop/go, and it suck the gas hauling all that stiffening and protecting and heavy duty component (the montero has a much stouter rear end than the f150) steel up to speed. I got a combined steady 18.5 all around mpg, with about equal highway and city miles, and a fair amount of sitting on job sites with the air/heat and engine on, watching the work.
Not responsible for advice not taken...

I'm usually the firt one off the line at a light, but because I pay attention, lol, not that I floor it. 18 is goo to go with me! A heavier rear end in a Mits than my F-150? Gee, and it has the towing package....that's a good thing I hope they are bullet proof,I plan on making it a keeper and hopefully keep it running.
Last question (lol) before I decide to take the leap as a newbie Mits owner...
Unlike many of you guys, I'm not a mechanic, been a long time since I pulled an engine or tranny and probably won't. Which means I have to find a shop near by to do the heavy stuff if it needs it (and will not be at a dealer...waaay too high) All vehicles need upkeep, how, on the average, are the costs of keeping a good one on the road, not driving hard but using it as intended, compared to other 4x4s, like a rodeo or pathfinder....Ican't find recalls for these, tooold, so this being a v-6 5speed, what should I expect? Thanks!!!

There are very few on this board that are mechanics or technicians. A lot of these guys should take it up, though.
You'll find these to be very reliable vehicles and not overly expensive to maintain correctly. Just throw some common sense at it and you'll be fine.
About the only "gotcha" (if I'm remembering right) with the v-6s is making sure the crankshaft bolt (that holds on the pulley) has been replaced and is torqued correctly. Misubishi redesigned that bolt and issued new torque specs on it. There are several post around that outline the issue. If you find it hasn't been done, do it. It's not a matter of "if," it's a matter of "when."
87 Montero, bought new, by me - 88/89 intercooled Starion Turbo engine- with awesome audio.
