Your mpg in a montero is all in how you accelerate. Steady cruise, it's fine. Push it medium in city stop/go, and it suck the gas hauling all that stiffening and protecting and heavy duty component (the montero has a much stouter rear end than the f150) steel up to speed. I got a combined steady 18.5 all around mpg, with about equal highway and city miles, and a fair amount of sitting on job sites with the air/heat and engine on, watching the work.
