This is a reply I made on an old post.

I had the Taurus 3.8 fan assembly on my 3.0L Gen I, controlled by a DCC (Delta Current Control) FK35 (now FK50p) unit. It is an amazing setup. No need to upgrade anything, alternator, battery, wiring, etc. This unit runs the fan only when need (mostly at low speed) and it will even run after you shut down the engine to continue cooling.

It's a little pricey, but well worth the money.

I am in the process of moving this setup to my 1998 after I find a suitable fan. The Taurus fan is to thick to fit.

This is what serching will do for you.

And this was my reply....

The problem with - [color:"red"] your name here [/color] - setup is he has an 87 with a 50 amp alternator just keeps up with the stock load. The Ford fans draws about 33 amps. Idling with the lights on would run the battery down.

Seems like groundhog day. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

At low speeds when max cooling is needed the controller will run the fans at full. No matter how good the controller, you still need a correctly sized alternator to run the fans.
