So, I've always liked the xterra roof rack, so I cut one down to see what it would look like. What do you guys think? I'm kinda on the fence.

The X-Terra looks nicer but they both still rely on the roof for support. I think the best racks are the ones with a basket that gets the load off of the roof itself.
Every have a bunch of luggage strapped to the top of a Gen II.......the sunroof doesn't like to open very well.

I agree that it will not support the weight of a gutter mount. I don't really plan on putting much weight up there. I plan on putting some plates under the roof to help with weight distribution. In the end, it is really for looks and maybe to put some lumber. I have my full size truck for major stuff.

A roof rack will cost you mileage empty or loaded. I like my Yakima because I can take it off. It tends to get in the way in some of the places I camp so pulling a small trailer works better for me.

I thinkit looks pretty good. Does it sit flush where it mounts to the roof? It works with the roof contour, so astethically it is acceptable. If you like it, to he11 with others opinions. If it'll work for what you want, then knock yourself out and use it!

the mounts do sit flush, but the raider only has about a 1in rise in the back and the xterra has a 2in. So I will need to fab up an extention or spacer for the middle and back feet. in the pic, I have a 3\4in piece of wood as a spacer. Nothing is bolted down, no holes drilled yet, just dry fitting it. I also cut out about 16in of pipe to get it to fit on the truck.

Sounds like a simple fix. I'd go for it!

Can these roof racks serve as ladder racks? I don't really need to put any on the roof, other than a ladder from time to time.
