I know its been discussed in various treads, but i have done a heap of searching and cant find the info im after. I want to lift around 4.5" and get some good articulation, I know a lot are running higher sprig rates to help with carrying heavy loads and trailers, But if off road was the main criteria, what would be the best spring rate for the big lift? Does anyone know the spring rates of Daves Rocksport BIG lift (4.5") springs?

You realize 4.5" will be a mother to install? AND that you'll likely have clearance issues between the lower strut fork and the front axle cv boots? I battled just putting in my 3.5" front spacers, but I didn't have a portage spring compressor in there to compress the strut while installing the lift back in with the strut. You'll NEED that to do 4.5" for sure. I don't have any info to help you though, sorry.

Sorry guys, I didnt explain myself to well. Or tho I am interested in the spring rates for front and rear, Its the rear thats getting the 4.5" For the best results run the new lift coils which are about 4.5" of lift for the rear. As of now this is available as a kit through dave scott.... Since theres no kits available anymore, im going to have to have the springs made up, Im just not sure what spring rate to go with?

also are you keeping in mind that this would be 4-1/2" lift from factory height not ur sagged height now...my 3" lift springs actually lifted mine between 5 and 6 inches from where i was sitting

104 TJ rear springs get you close to 4.5 inches of lift in the rear. I had the Eibach springs which lifted it 1.5 incheas in the rear and when I compared the Eibach springs to the TJ springs I gained an additional 3 inches over the Eibach springs. This is not gained by just the increased spring rates. The coils are that much taller.

Be careful when lifting a longbody (post 2000) above 3", you will end up with some serious driveshaft vibration caused by the altered rear geometry (different amount and set up to the shorty's). I ended up using Toughdog adjustable Hilux front torque rods x 2 for the upper links, with custom metal inserts pressed into the urethane rubbers to correct (tilt back) the pinion angle. Too much rear tilt will foul the rear shock near the lower diff mount.

This turned more into a discussion about lifting the Kia, I was mostly interested in spring rates. I would assume a softer spring rate would be desirable if you wanted to make use of any extra travel you had from a lift, and get some extra articulation. Just wandering why everyone seems to end up going harder instead? I assume due to the extra load from extra gear on the car. Or maybe some really bumpy tracks, But i would have thought more flex was a good goal?

Gee...I guess I'm lucky... I'm running about 5" of rear lift and no vibration and I have 50k on the lift...also Dennis has over 100k on his and he never mentioned trouble with vibration. Don't know how much lift he is running. Anyway...since spring rate is the topic, I can't remember exactly, but the Sporty rear springs were 100 or 110 pounds/inch however, they are progressive springs and I never tested them past 2". Hope that helps.
