I went to get some stuff out of the back of my 91 LS and the door wouldn't unlock, at all. With the power lock or the key! Any ideas on getting freed up. I'm not sure if it's the power lock or the manual mechanism. I don't really want to tear up the panel to get to things. Any ideas?

Just checking did you work the inside door handle and try sliding the lock on the inside? The rear door card comes off super easy and is difficult to mess up. Just a philips screw driver, just be mindful of the nasty tar stuff around the edges of the door card. From there you will get a better idea if there is something wrong with the lock mech., linkages, or etc...

My Gen 2 was the same way until I sprayed some lube up the small hole under the handle.

I Had the same Problem some time ago

did the same solution as above <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

go the the handle and look underneath you should see a small opening that the white handle goes to, just spray some Lube into it or a penetrating oil (WD-40)

should fix it

...a penetrating oil (WD-40)...

Fwiw as an aside... it's been discussed here ad nauseum and the conclusion was IIRC, WD40 is a poor, (i.e. not very effective) penetrating oil and you're much better off using a different product.

What WD40 is good for is to displace water which it was originally designed to do, hence it's name WD='Water Displacement'.

Penetrating oil matters if your removing a stuck fastener. As far as a general lube for a door latch internals, my experiance with WD 40 has been good.

Lithium grease or permatex silicone grease work good on door linkages, the silicone stays put forever though, so be careful where it gets smeared if you use it. It's murder to get off of glass as well.

Great for the parts you can get to... I use spray lube on the hidden parts or the parts that are hidden until you take them out.

I was wondering what happened to ya, Bill. I missed the post a couple of months ago about selling your Montero. Before that, it looks like it's been a couple of years since you've been on here. Hope things go well for you.

Are you still planning on moving?
