Christmas Eve I installed a new idler arm and upper ball joints, then put close to 2,000 miles or so on it round trip to the great north east and back from Christmas through new years. She got lots of attention from me, including several car washes and many tanks of gas. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> No issues that I was worried about but I'll still be doing some major preventive maintenance to the engine/trans:
First week in february, she'll be laid up to have the engine taken out for it's 118k mile tune up - it's coming out due to a leaky rear main seal, and I believe the previous owner may have slightly overheated it with a stuck thermostat so for precaution and just to run through the engine in general, here's what I'm doing:
- Replace rear main & front seal,
- Timing belt, timing belt pulleys & tensioner
- Water-pump
- Head Gasket, Bolts and all the other gaskets
- Clean and flow test injectors
- PCV valve
- Pull oil pan and check crank & Rod bearing clearances (although there's likely no issue)
- Belts & hoses, idler pulleys
- Radiator Servicing
- Spark plugs & wires
- Transmission Filter & fluid change
Did I forget anything? - It's going to be a fun week when that all goes down. Still have to put in my parts list to Mitsubishi for some specific seals and o-rings.
After all that's done - if I'm not in the poor house I hope to put a new set of rims & tires on it.
Might have my Isuzu pickup or my extra 1995 (non running) montero for sale soon.
I also added a SORBA sticker to replace some junk from the previous owner.. the OBX sticker wasn't coming off to clean so I left it.
Here's a cell phone picture of how she looks after a return home bath on sunday:
