Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have had the truck in the garage for about a week and went to use it and saw the temperature gauge is showing hot when its been sitting for over a week. Is this a fuse or what??

Thanks Don and Barb

You pop open the hood yet? Visual check time; namely sensors.

Yes have opened the hood and checked to see if the motor was hot and it was not. I don,t know where the sensor is.
I was look under the truck today and see what I can find.
We need the truck now because our Van is down and the truck is all we have left.

If it's a 22R motor, the temp sensor is up on the intake manifold by the thermostat housing.

Ok I may have made this post wrong,so lets start over.
The truck water temp gauge is showing hot with the motor being cold.
So whats wrong?? Is it the sending unit? or a fuse someplace?
After looking all over the net I see the truck has a sending unit and a sensor for the EFI. I am talking about the water temp gauge showing hot when its cold.
The truck is a 1988 Toyota pickup 4x4 with the 22re motor

Thanks Don and Barb

Make sure your coolant is topped off; I'd start with a t'stat; it's a little more readily available to you than the sensor.

Just dug a bit in the FSM; your water temp sensor is on the rt side of the head; closest to the fuel pump closeout plate (where a fuel pump would be mounted for a carbie).

The chart is a graph, so it looks like at about a coolant temp of 68F that your resistance should be around 2K ohms.

You can check that quick with a meter before going after other parts, at least.

You don't have a fuse for this problem.

Body Damage is Cool
mine .. consistantly does this as well .. it will go up and down like a yoyo now .. tried the sender , and coolant level , checked wiring ..

I havent fixed it yet , but from what I have found is,

apparently , there are 3 screws that hold the "guage" into the main dash pod . 1 of these is a ground screw , and apparrently over time can loosen . although I have not taken mine apart to repair it , and cant confirm this .. if you have some time , you might just tighten these back up smile and let me know ..

Ok the coolant is topped off.
Well I can't get the wires off of the sensor and I can't find the sending unit.
Anyone have any pics of them??

Thanks Don and Barb
