Getting the Wheeling Fever

the turning radius is balls on my raider....is that a general raider thing that has to be repaired by swapping the entire steering system, or is it a problem with my specific vehicle? even with my 31s the turning radius sucked... it appears to only go side to side about 30 degrees, for a total of 60 degrees of movement. every other vehicle ive owned can turn the tires a hell of a lot more than this... every time i try to go around a sharp corner i have to do a 3 point turn =/

Those cv joints will only take so much angle, but if you want to try it, there are steering stops that you can adjust. If in doubt where they are, crank the steering to the stop and crawl under and see what hits...

Turning radius bad? I never had an issue turning doing a U turn between 2 lanes of traffic. Hell of alot better than my Subaru. Also offroad I am first turned around on a dead end trail with a group of Jeeps, Jimmys, and Nissans.

Without doing a donut, my turning radius is about 35 feet...better than the Dodge 3/4-ton 4x4 extra-cab longbed I had, which was about 4 acre wide turning radius. My two 4x4 regular cab longbed duallies were/are in the neighborhood of about 60 feet.

LOL at turning radius on a IFS 4wd vehicle.
You can only turn it so far before stuff snaps in 4wd. Thats why its limited. For example, the birfield joints on the old toyotas are limited to 30 degress IIRC.

yeah i wasnt thinking about the stupid cv joints....ill crank my steering (take the word 'crank' lightly) and see how binded the cv's are, then go from there if i should adjust the steering bump stops. Thanks guys. Solid axle is in the future.

Thanks guys. Solid axle is in the future. Quick search shows that stock dana 60s and dana 44s have about 38-40 degrees since they have U-joint axles.

WELL!!!!!! I just happen to have both of the axles in question.... and...
My 4.3 SAS Raider turns MUCH MUCH sharper than my 4d56 IFS Raider.
