No visual other than a converter check. The hood is never opened.
Since your pre OBD you just get a tailpipe test. My turbo Raider passed just fine. My Passat gets the OBD code test with no tailpipe test.
A lot easyier than CA.
BTW, jobs are a bit tight in Portland.

Well thats good to hear. I passed the sniffer here with flying colors and that was before the rebuild. As for jobs Im thinking of medford as the place we wanna go. Im a computer tech and they have quite a few computer places around. Me and my wife are heading up in the spring to look for a house and a possable job for me. Im just tired of turning on the tv and finding out my kid cant go out and play because the air is so bad here. Any other place in california is way over priced.

We moved for similar reasons. Both of us working and we still could not buy a house. So far I've pretty happy with Portland. Not the nice weather of Santa Barbara, but the air is a bit more breathable. Not just for smog, but particulates as well.
Summer here are very nice.
Santa Barbara had a median house price of 1.2 million when we left. We got a nice house in Portland for a bit less.
Smog is a snap... And all premium is 92 octane. Seems to run better than the California fuel.

We bought ours but will rent it for now. Maybe we will sell if the market ever picks up here in cali. Went to seattle a few months back and loved it i didnt want to leave. I figure its pretty much the same in Oregon. I did 3 computer jobs and almost paid for our trip when we were there. This day and age everyone has one if its not a virus its somthing elts. I figured the gas is better too I think they add stuff to it hear it smells way diffrent than before.

Maybe you and your kid wouldn't have to worry about air pollution if people didn't try to beat/avoid smog/pollution controls so much.

First off I think everyone should pass the sniffer test. The starion turbo swap is a much better "Cleaner Burning" set up and passed the california test just fine. I was worried about having to go threw the whole smog referee stuff again to get my truck re certified. As for moving out of this bowl of soup because of pesticide pollution and cow farts, also when the wind blows from the south we get all Los Angeles smog and it stays in the valley tell it rains or blows out somewhere elts. My mother n law is a teacher and said last month the kids had to stay inside for 4 days strait because the air was so bad they could go out and play thats pretty sad. And I will not let my kid grow up and wonder how she got asthma and cant play soccer. So long California....

Well honestly what do you expect when you're living in Visalia! That's not exactly a great place to live. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
