Getting the Wheeling Fever
Smog tests are only needed in the Portland metro area and Medford area also.

All those places are S.Cal. I despise So Cal probably as much as anybody and it sounds like you've already made up your mind but have you considered northern California somewhere along the 80 or 50 corridor through the sierras or anywhere in the sierras/sierra foothills for that matter? Alternatively perhaps a small coastal community north of the golden gate bridge would suit your needs?

Not sure what you do for a living but there are probably many other good alternatives for you if you wanted to stay in Cali...

I agree with you moving. I don't see how anyone could stay there longer than economicly ness in the central valley. Escape while you can. Even for work , you'll lose out in the long run because of the toll on your health. Even on the 80 and 50 corridor, if you don't want to live in gang warfare territory you have to live in the foothills with extreme high ozone eating your kids lungs. I '?lived? in Excramento 6 years, probably why I got Cancer.
Visalia , Kings Canyon in View, on the map it looks like the closest thing to heaven. I thought about living there,,, but you can't see the Mtns but a couple days a year.
Over here the skys are clearer and more star fill than anywhere. But no one but a billionaire could afford to buy a house here.
I'm planning on moving to Slab City myself to try to recover economicly.
Then maybe Oregon, too.

Yeah I was living in Aliso Viejo Ca and renting a room for 950$ a month of course I was single then and it wasnt to bad.
And yes the mountains look good when you can see them its kinda crazy there only 45 min away. Like you said Dave get out while you still can! Im a computer tech and my wifes a pharmacy technician we both found good goverenment jobs up there and land is in my price range. You buy a house here for half a mil with no backyard no problem. I would rather have a few akers of land with trees and a nice cabin to live in for half the price. The economy is in a tail spin and will only get worse thats another good reason to jump ship.

medford might not even have smog. I am pretty sure there are only a few counties that smog in oregon. Even at that they are easy to pass older cars. Passed my friends starion with no emissions or cats, with some isopropyl alcohol smile

Are you moving to the Portland Metro area? I'd be glad to give you feedback on areas.

I've lived in Portland my whole life. The weather is basically depressing. Sometimes you won't see the sun for 30+ days, 9 months of clouds, wet/mold/mildew, humidity...

Portland has tons of liberal environmental hippie freaks. HAHA smile

You might look at Colorado: excellent air quality, better economy and much better weather.

Looks like S. Cal air quality could use more "environmental hippie freaks".
