I need help, pointers, ideas, anything. I have a 67 bronco halfcab that I just bought, the clutch was out(slipping) when I bought it. I put in a new clutch p.plate and t.bearing along with a new roller pilot bearing all new from ford.(flywheel resurfaced) The bronco chatters, shakes, vibrates or what ever you want to call it so bad that its not driveable. It only does it on pulling out from a dead stop going foward, no problems backing up.
It has a 289,all new bushings in the springs and trans. mount I'm out of ideas, any help or ideas on what to do or look for. thanks for any info. mike bridges

If the chattering started after replacing the clutch, check the obvious first.
Sounds like it could be a mis-adjusted clutch
(not fully disengaged when foot off pedal).
Lower ratio gears(reverse or granny low) reduce strain of setting into motion from a dead stop, and might explain no shuttering effect while in reverse.
Adjust the clutch pedal first, to allow proper pedal "freeplay"

Stop and pull out chatters like crazy, even in fourwheel drive but it backs up without a problem. I'm lost talked to the guy I bought it from and he said it chattered a little before the clutch went out,but who knows.
thanks for your time and ideas.
mike bridges

I would work my way towards rear.
Driveline angle, if lifted vehicle could be severe enough to bind u joints.
Check for sloppy rear axle. I had a front axle "TracLok" that chattered just before it went out. Spider gears in rear dif?,

Sounds wierd, the new parts and flywheel re-surface should have done it, cured mine. Ok how are your mounts? tight? spring shape? and what tires/gears are you running?
Rick-

What axle ratio are you running and what tire size?
If you have 3.50 ratio with 33" tires, you are extremely high geared.
Some clutch chatter should be expected when running a high drive ratio.

All the mounts are new (engine and trans.)I put the engine mounts on when I replaced the clutch.
It's stock height has the 4.10 or 4.11 (how ever you want to add it) gears and worn 30inch tires. I work as a mechanic(not so sure anymore) at a dealer ship. No one here knows either but they sure think it's funny. I usually do all the trouble shooting, but I'm still lost on this one.
It has all new poly-bushing in it(springs and the body mounts and so on). It runs and drives great no shakes, rattles or squeaks.
The thing just chatters from a dead stop or almost stopped, if moving at a couple miles an hour it's fine.
Do you think I've just got a bad new FORD clutch? If so it's the first for me. I install about 40 or so a year at the shop. I can do it again but don't think it will prove anything, was hoping it was simple. I guess murphy came to visit. thanks
mike bridges

Sounds like you know what your doing.
I wouldn't put too much faith in factory parts anymore. Ford has had alot of problems with their diesel flywheels coming apart recently.
I know it's alot of work, but if it bothered me (and it probably would), I'd put in an aftermarket pressure plate. One that has a very heavy pedal.
I'm interested in what you find out. Please post your discovery here.
Good luck!

I'll let you all know here in a few weeks,(we have a 2week shut down at christmas)if the weather holds.I plan on doing it again and using a centerforce clutch,I'm going to use the diaphragm style instead of the lond style and see if it helps. Thanks for the ideas. mike bridges
