Body Damage is Cool
A friend of mine is about to pull the trigger on an 07 Runner, but it's missing the spare. I still have my OEM 15" spare rim that I'd be happy to give her to make replacing it easy, but I have a sneaking suspicion that 15" rims stopped clearing the brakes on trucks and runners sometime in the mid-2000s. Can someone confirm or deny that for me?

Ii doubt it would fit over the front brakes.
96-02 limited had bigger front brakes. I think after 02 they were all mininum 16"....
Backspacing is probably different as well.

There were a small number of base model '96-'02 4Runners that came from the factory with 15" wheels, but most had 16" wheels.

I've even experienced trying certain new aftermarket 16" wheels that didn't fit over the typical brake calipers intended for OEM 16" wheels.

Years after that only got larger - maybe 17" wheels (?), so I'd say it's very unlikely that any 15" would fit a 2007.

Thanks guys. I rather suspected exactly that, but the only thing I've bought since my 96 T was a 75 40 (I miss that thing; never even got to build it). Your feedback coupled with some other Googling I was able to get done after posting and before running out (long week today) pretty well deny it.

4cyl's and base models have 15's... the upgraded ones have bigger brakes...

That would explain why they mention Type I and Type II brake pads then; the ears and the anti-rattle springs, IIRC, are a little different.

We stopped and took a look at it on the way home this afternoon...definitely not a 4 cyl or base model.

As it is, it's still in the rochambeau of offer/counter-offer, and I don't know that they'll come down to her price range. They did call back to offer a '11 Sportage with 750 miles at a get-rid-of-it price

Sounds like some dealer eh? Apparently they don't know the difference between a Kia and a Yota.

Anything on alaskaslist that she can peruse? A thought.

It's Kendall alright, and I don't see any Runners on AKlist. Our guess is that they want the Kia gone because they know it will sit. I'm sure she's been through Craigslist and the Park and Sell lots.

She and I buy these things differently, too. She wants something that will go ten years without maintenance (currently replacing a 97 Rav that's barely been touched but that needs an overhaul). I buy based on how it can be upgraded when it needs maintenance.
