I searched and from the posts I found, some of the answers to question I have are not entirely clear.
I found a rolled 87 D50 2wd 5spd turbo diesel truck for $1300 complete and running with 55xxx miles on it.
I HAVE a LWB 1989 montero with a very tired 6g72 in it.
what all do I need to swap? a 4 cylinder transmission and case, Im guessing at the least.
will the mounts from the truck work in the montero?
does the engine on the truck have the proper oil pan?
what can I do to get a few more ponies out of the turbo diesel without breaking it? Ive read they are a wee bit fragile.
all I want is performance comparable to the stock gas engine. Intercooler? exhaust? bigger/better turbo? is there an injection pump I can swap onto the motor for some more fuel?
also, what transmission can I use or make some sort of frankenstein transmission out of if I wanted a lower cruising gear on the highway for the diesel? the 6g72 is spinning about 3k rpm at 60! I think thats a bit high.
If I had all the money I've ever spent on cars, I'd spend it all on cars.
