Hey you guys. I might be coming into a 327 small block v8 Chevy and was wondering if it would be a hard swap to do. I live in CA and was wondering what i have to do to pass smog testing. I don't remember if there was anything smog related on my monte. If im able to im gonna convert the small block into fuel injection since i dont want the hassle of a carb and i need the efficiency for the mpg. What can i do the make this pass smog

I honestly have no idea. I dont think thats a rule. I think it only has to pass smog for it to be legal

I'm not an expert but my understanding was that an engine swap in CA had to be an engine from the same manufacturer and newer than the engine it's replacing. Those qualifications have to be met before it can even be considered for smog testing.

I have done 2 swaps when I lived in CA. The engine must be from the same year or newer than the vehicle it is swapped into and meet equivalent or tighter smog specs than the vehicle it is swapped into.
The swapped engine also has to have all its original smog equipment hooked up.

Well that sucks since the engine came out of a 68 camaro.

...and without moving the radiator forward, you have little to no room for a SBC due to length in the engine bay. You can equip the SBC with an electric water pump to shorten the engine length, or remove the firewall and make anew in a different position.
Look at a 302 Ford if you're wanting V8 sound in your Monty. There are a few threads about this already.
