ok so my muffler has a huge hole in it and will be replacing soon...if i'm gonna replace it i might as well upgrade the exhaust...gonna go with a thrush welded turbo muffler i think, but my question is what size is best for performance, too big or too small are both bad and definately dont want it as loud as it is now lol....the cat (95 so there is only the 1) is already gutted,i checked when i thought it was plugged,so figure upgrade from catback...was thinking 2-1/2" but didnt know if i should just go 2-1/4"...figure replace pipe to muffler, muffler, than tail pipe exit out the back instead of a turndown @ end of muffler like it was when i bought it..what do you guys think?

I went with a 2.5" after cat back exhaust with a Spin Tech muffler. I love it. It starts out with a deeper sound than stock, but flattens off at 3500 RPM. With the Sportage typically running at well above 3500 RPM when driving the sound is just deeper than stock, but not loud. I had a 4" tip on it that made it louder becasue the shop didn't have the 3" tip I wanted when I had it installed. It recently rusted off, so now I'm going to have them redo the tail pipe with just a 3" tip instead. I'll probably have them cut out the cat when I do it and have it replaced with a High Flow cat.

Here is a link for them.

If by spinning the air it makes it a Turbo muffler, then yes. It does a lot more though. Check them out. I've been really happy with them. More than the Magnaflow or Flow Master stuff I've used in the past.

The Spintech is not a turbo muffler. I have a Thrush Turbo on mine and like it. The welded Thrush muffler is going to be louder because it is a Flowmaster knock off.

The longer and wider the muffler the quieter it will be.

I have a '97 Vougar with a 4.6 V8. I had the Thrush welded mufflers on it. I than last fall had the third cat removed and had true duals put on. The Thrush welded mufflers sounded like crap after the cat delete so I put Magnaflow's on.

I could be wrong but I have a feeling with the Thrush welded muffler your Sportage will sound like every teenagers Honda.

No it doesn't. Around 25-30 it has a resonance to it but that is all. I don't notice it at hi-way speeds and I have a two door. My exhaust is all 2" as well.

Try the Thrush single inlet and dual outlet. Sounds great and looks pretty cool too.

Just remember, less backpressure changes your torque curve and you loose low end torque.
