Getting the Wheeling Fever
So, thats what i am looking at. The fellow that has it collects monteros, mitsus, and cummins diesels. He has three monteros, and im headed to paw over them this weekend. The one that really turns me on sofar is the diesel. The down side is i have not seen it, and he said it was an old 2.6 A/T turned into a 2.3 TD with 5spd. I an guessing he got a wrecked ram and made the runnign gear swap, and if that is the case, no matter how poorly finished it is, i am guessing i will grab it. I have a sickness, that is if i think i like it i usually bite then regret it later. Does anyone have any questions o thoughts on this that i need to ponder before i jump? He says the engine needs a new bottom end, and it does start and run. He has several blocks and heads laying about (he runs a junk car/towing company) so i can grab an extra block and some parts. Hes a diesel mitsu freak. He also has a running 2.6 5sp with a header, says those are hard to come by? HELP!!!What do i do??

I would drop by without announcement to see real "cold" start.
Post pics and lets us know how the deal worked out.

So, i went down to this guys shop space, and what i feared was what i found. The six hunnert dollar montero diesel was decent looking, but being used as a storage bin. The conversion was done to the level of about 80percent, but stuff like fuel filter zip tied to inner fender well, push button(horn) glow plugs, stack of webbers in the front pass seat. So sad, it had a 2.3 block, head and pump in the back sitting in a puddle of oil. The interior would need to have been replaced, engine rebuilt, and just a general scraping. The upside is he had four 2.3 liter diesel engines sitting around, two runner D50's, and a bucket load of parts. He also had two other raiders, one i think im gonna buy for wheels and interior parts for a couple hundred. Gonna pick up two diesel engines for threefifty each, and i am sending my flat bed wrecker guy an hour north tomorrow to pick up my new 85 monty for the engine swap! I also am checking about importing "parts" gen 1 pajero/montys with diesels and RHD. Does anyone else have any interest in importing a forty foot container full of monty parts from Japan?

Cool stuff! Look forward to seeing the culmination of this project. There are quite a few new part suppliers up here, so if you need a contact, let me know.

Depends, what else can you get in that container?
Maybe stuff a nice clean Mazda 13B or 20B turbo in there...

Glad you got everything you needed out of the deal, eagerly awaiting seeing this one on the road!

I'm looking for a gen II hood with scoop. Found some in UK could get shipped for about $300...probably going for it before summer hits.
