Hi, I am thinking about doing an engine swap in a 1989 Isuzu Trooper with a fuel inyected 2.6 engine. I live in Puero Rico, a territory of US. Since 4JB1T engines are extremely difficult to find. I've googled this engine model and found out that there are 4JB1T engine for industrial applications also found an information that the original japanese 4JB1T installed originally in the Troopers have more power (BHP) than those 4JB1T engines for industrial use, by the way made as an aftermarket in china.
Is this info correct, how can I order the correct one? May I use the same tranny? Thanks.

I am going to move this to the Isuzu Diesel Forum. The guys over there can do a much better job of answering your question.

My understanding is a gasoline transmission isn't capable of dealing with the higher torque of a diesel engine, Also the gear ratios are not ideal for a diesel RPM range, You'll want a really good body to go along with the high degree of work doing an engine swap. Indeed it has been recommended to me as I'm considering which diesel engine and tranny combo to install in which chassis, then pick a body. Brian

I believe also that the diesel engine won't bolt up to the gas transmission.
