 Fuel gauge receiving unit

Anyone know if it is possible to repair a fuel gauge receiving unit? I have an '84 22re 2wd truck that I have been restoring, the only thing left is the fuel gauge. Originally thought it was the sending unit, but it tests correctly. I pulled the cluster and checked the receiving unit and it is bad. Toyota no longer manufactures the part(#83243-89308), nor does any after market manufacturers. I haven't been able to find any clusters at the parts yards, forums, or on ebay, and according to Toyota the part was only used for '84-'86 trucks, so swapping in one from a celica, cresssida, supra, etc., wont work.
My current options are replacing the cluster w/a std. one and adding a tach, or installing an after market sending unit/float/gauge. Before going this route I figured I would see if there isn't a way to fix the current sending unit.

I'm sure if you put a wanted post up on yotatech for an 84-88 SR5 cluster someone can find one for you.
Or, check car-part.com for "instrument clusters" or "speedometers" and i've already found more than a few of them in about 30 seconds.

I didn't try car-part.com site directly, the Olympic 4x4 site I usually use has a car-part.com used parts link and it turned up nothing. I will take a look at the site, thanks.

My luck must be turning, I found two and found another just posted on pirate.
Still would like to know if the receiving unit can be fixed, it would be nice to recoup some cash.

Have you had a chance to look at an EPC to see what all that might look like? That's what I do if taking the plunge with something new and no guidance.

There's not a lot to a fuel guage that can go wrong. Dirt and rust are the main culprits I find and a good cleaning usually fixes them. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, I think we had that discussion about gauge grounds being crudded up not too long ago. Even more so with an older rig.
