does anyone know if the kia 2.7l v6 will fit the standard kia sportage tranny?

No it wont, that 2.7 is a Hyundai engine, and they were using a different tranny...
Sorry...
Another option, VW diesel with an Advanced adaptor plate will hook up to the trans...

As above... Mazda is Mazda, Hyundai is Mitsubishi Another option is the MZR diesel which is the latest iteration of our version of the diesel (RF/R2 series) engine. I cannot see any reason why it would not mechanically fit. As for things like water pumps (being from a FWD) and so on would be w bit of work with the possibility of using the old R series components??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_MZR_engine

So can you take a transverse engine and turn it like it should be, facing the front?
I know a while back I took a 231 v-6 and put it in a samurai with an auto tranny.

wasnt ours originally a mazda transverse engine? It has been used both ways pretty much from the start (Early Mazda 626 RWD/FWD and Mazda B2000/E2000. Dates back to the early 80's in it's early forms.
