Charlie, where did you get the i/r manifold for the intake? Make it? Looks like you could fab an mpi intake working off that real easy, flange to runners to plenum to TB, and make some serious hp. I calculated once that you could cut the runners to about 10.5" and get a second bounce ram air at about 2400 rpms, just in time to kick you into spool and putting a little more air under the low end torque curve.

You might have to hydroboost the brakes to make it fit.

Yes I made that manifold, That one was rolled sheet to make the tapered tubes. That was my 6th IR intake that I had made way back then. I generally pressform or metalspin the runners now.
If I were to make an ITB for the 2.6 it would look something like this,

Someday I will get inspired to finish the plenum and Tstat housing. A few other pics of a 2.6,

I have done many other intake and exhausts, some I have documented and many that were back in the film days.

Charelie, that is beyond very nice.

What rpm band were you shooting for with that itb mani? High 5's?

I've always had trouble figuring out in my mind why it's better to have the itb in each runner with the attendant turbulence of the blade and shaft in the airflow even at wot, as opposed to one big tb and each runner pulling from a nice big calm plenum with a nice flare at the inlet like your intake trumpets. Is it just a little snappier response that way? I always hated sitting there with a carb air flow meter synchronizing the butterflies. Adjust one and it changes all the others again, and again, and again. Too ADD for that...

That intake is built for a torque peak in the mid 5s with top power in the mid 7K range and a rev limit a bit over 8K.

Yes the butterfly is a hindrance to flow and power. Plenty of testing with barrel throttles have shown almost 2 Hp gain on a 300Hp 4 cylinder. I gave allot of thought to barrel throttles on the little 4G92 Mivec engine I am installing in a track car, then decided I do not have the time to make them so that project has a similar intake to the Starion one pictured previously.
These are built to gain throttle response, the big goal is throttle sensitivity around the torque peak allowing for the best balance control in mid corner. A single throttle plate with plenum just does not have the sensitivity, this is fine in a FWD car where you balance the car with the brake pedal but a RWD car is balanced with the throttle. Then again many drivers are better off with a single throttle so they will be less prone to unbalance the car.
With this in mind, a nice big single throttle is great for drag racers.
Here are some pics of the 4G92 Mitsubishi, this is a 174HP 1600cc engine from 1992. We surly did not get these stateside. I am converting this engine to a RWD configuration.

Now wait till I get a bit more done on a 6G72 ITB intake I am building.

I like that motor. Something about a big old undersquare motor turning 8k is a rib tickler. I know what you mean about the immediacy of the throttle response. When it swapped the two carb manifold and 44idf webers onto the FIat 1800cc 1608cc motor in place of the progressive 2bbl weber, throttle control became like turning a vernier rheostat. You could balance the car in the corner like the difference between iron sights and a Zeiss rifle scope. The progressive throttle was slow and notchy in comparison. The webers were as close as you could get to fuel injection.
