Having taken the radiator out, I failed to take note of which line from the auto connected to the radiator. One of the lines runs through a loop of metal tubing at the bottom.

well- i dont know about the correct hose order-but i would take the time to upgrade to an external oil cooler. mine works great.

Already paid for a new radiator.
I just need to know what tube goes where (if it matters)

Where did you install the external oil cooler?

first of all - fitting a new radiator is not a reason not to fit an oil cooler. 2 different things. as far as i can tell-the external oil cooler works really well. how do i know? - well-my right leg doesnt get cooked when i drive in the summer. as for fitting- i bought an oil cooler for an equivalent of 30 $ - its a universal kit that comes with hoses etc. size? i went for the largest i could find- so its size is roughly the size of a shoebox lid.
now-fitting it is the tricky bit-you will have to fit it behind the front bumper and in front of the aircon radiator. how does it fit? the kit comes with these plastic rachet things that hold it in place in front of any radiator. and another thing-i fitted it behind the aircon fan. in order to do that i put some small spacers on the 3 bolts that hold the aircon fan in place-thus extending the fan about 1 cm forward. why? because now when i turn the aircon on the fan also cools my oil cooler. i will be glad to take some pics-but its in a really bad location behind the bumper. in total- 2 hours work. 30-40$ (i dont know the price in the USA) and it works.
p"s- dont forget that the main target of the cooler inside rad is to make your trans. oil heat up faster-so i guess if u live somewhere cold it does make some sense.

Ok, for your original question, I don't think it matters if the fluid goes in forward or backward but if you get them differant than when you took it apart it might look funny. I have noticed that most hoses and wires fall in there natural position. Mine is a stick so I can't go look at it to see which hose goes where, maybe somone with an auto can look for you.

Well, I got the new radiator. You were right about the hoses falling back into their original shape. The car nows runs nice and cool.
Interesting point: I took the radiator down to a local engineering shop and because it is an aluminium core, he couldn't fix it. One of the annoying things about this (yes there are several), is that the radiator was only 3 years old and I have always put in the additive. The last original lasted 8 years. So I got some metal putty and plugged the hole. Traveled 700km's before swapping over. I have full confidence in the putty working. I have used it to repair cylinder heads before. Anyway, he said that he had a similar problem with his Landcruiser. He said the because the radiator is mounted on rubber bushes, it doesn't earth properly. I checked it and sure enough, the volt meter showed 0.25 volts. So I have now made an earth strap so my radiator will last for many more years.

can you plz pot a picture of the earth strap? and how doe this connect ti the leak? (im asking becayse my rad was replaced 3 weeks ago after 1 year!!!)

also - is that manifold in the picture for the sporty??

The earth strap is simply a piece of wire that makes good contact with the metal of the radiator and good contact with the body of the vehicle. Basically a piece of wire with two lugs crimped on the ends connecting the radiator to the body - it is as simple as that.

The earth strap does nothing to correct the leak - that still needs to be fixed, but what it does do is prevent the corrosion that can cause further leaks to occur.
