Ive been told by a friend that works at the PDC warehouse here in Atlanta that Mitsu is going to a single line worldwide, as in dropping the Montero and going Outlander and Outlander Sport worldwide. I really dont like the look of the new Mitsus at all with the big low grill. I dont think we will ever have a truck or SUV from any manufacturer that will compare to the old ones.
John

Your friend is partially correct. they are going to a world wide lineup. Their SUVs have always been a part of their world wide line up. The cars that are being discontinued are market specific cars or The Galant, The Endeavor, and the Eclipse. The Montero Sport is about 2 year away from it's next redesign, but is very much a part of future product plans. There are actually some countries that will not get the crossover based Outlander as crossovers aren't as popular in some Asian, African, and Middle Eastern countries.

The Endeavor is part of the Project America platform along with the Galant and Eclipse. These cars are being phased out as Mitsubishi focuses on vehicles that can be marketed globally. The Montero Sport is a large part of their future world wide plans and the reason they have brought one to Cypress and decided to have focus groups to test it's viability in the US. This would in effect be the Endeavor replacement. Please contact them if you can. If we can get the Montero Sport back and prove that it can be successful it will be easier to get them to bring back the Montero

I would if I still knew anyone at the Cypress HQ but unfortunately, my main contact who was part of the design group was let go about 1-2 years ago along with many other employees.

If you know anyone in Corporate who's willing to speak with owners/enthusiasts who are looking at this situation objectively please pass on my info (offroader_ii at yahoo dot com).

I'd be happy to have a serious discussion with them on the current state of the 4x4 and off road market, Mitsu Motor's N. America and their position in the market, and what I hear so many of my friends on this and other Mitsu 4x4 forums ask for (from a Mitsu 4x4 perspective of course).

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, just a die hard mitsu 4x4 owner who would love to see Mitsu successful in this segment.

I would have loved to see a earlier triton with a diesel. ANYTHING with a 4m41 or 4m40, and just a manual transmission. No auto for me. T

That 20inch wheel crap is gross, they can keep it. I dont see anything good coming out of mitsubishi anymore, but that goes for every other car company also, except maybe porsche lol.

I agree - except for the stupid wheels.

2 door is what I want - we have the MDX for 5 door pseudo-suv usage.

and 4m41 is a MUST!! DI-D is the only way to go.

Body Damage is Cool
This is a thought in general not mitsubishi specific.

I would like to see oldr vehicles brought back with retrofited newer stuff like air bags, newer engines, transmissions, lighting, interior features, etc..

maybe I'm oldfashioned, but I question long term effects on the unitbody vehicles for heavy offroad use. Seems once that body is tweeked a bit , well its really tweeked.
