Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm rebuilding an 89 V6 Raider auto into a 4D56T with manual trans and lockers. I put an ARB locker in the front and swapped a gen II SR disc brake axle into the rear. I am using an ARB compressor with a pressure reducing regulator that drops the rear locker pressure to 15 PSI. The compressor cycles every 10 seconds or so with the factory diff locked, and I can feel air coming out the vent tube. Do these always leak a little like this? Has anyone replaced the seals? Should I use a high volume low pressure pump instead, and just live with the leak?

Sorry if this question has already been answered. I searched a bunch but didn't find it. I just joined. Thanks!

The Gen 2 rear axle uses only 5 PSI to engage the locker. So if you sent 15 PSI to it, you probably blew out the diaphragm in the diff.

Most of us use the factory pump to avoid blowing the diaphagm since it has a built in regulator and a let-off valve to release the pressure.

Its seems like a common problem for these to leak, A few guys here bought diaphragms from the dealer and replaced them..I think they bought out the last of the stock. There's a later version that might still be available, but not sure if it will fit your diff.

Lots of good info here. The actuators seem to be hard or impossible to get, unless a new source has arrived in the last couple of years. Otherwise there is going to be a lot of people with leaking lockers around. From my experience, you do need the correct p/n for your year locker although some have successfully produced a hybrid. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the information! I tried to find the pressure needed before I hooked it up. Someone posted to use 1-2 bar. ARB uses 90psi. I hope I didn't blow out the diaphragm. The locker engages well and I can just barely feel air coming out the vent. I'll try to find a new diaphragm. It sounds like I might be able to re-seal the one I have if it has a small leak at the edge. I think I'll find a factory compressor and ditch the regulator.

A few people here (including me) have mentioned that their factory locker leaks some, but still stays ingaged when needed. Mine leaks alot when cold, but after the diff warms up almost seals completely. Been like that for 4 years now.
