Getting the Wheeling Fever
I just put a 4D56T into an '89 Raider (formerly V6-spun bearings). I started it for the first time a couple of hours ago. Woohoo! I haven't done the engine wiring yet, just the starter motor circuit and a jumper to the fuel shutoff solenoid and the glow plugs.

The fuel shutoff is on the back of the injector pump. What is the other connector on the right front of the pump? How do I run the glow plugs? Is the fitting on the top front of the intake the water temp sender? I don't have a wiring diagram. Thanks for any ideas!

Did you buy a used 4D56 or one of the new crate motors?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I bought a used one that was listed on ebay. It came with transmission and transfer case. It's a bit rough but seems ok. It ran rough at first with lots of smoke but seems good now. I replaced the belts before starting it, even though the old belts looked pretty good. The T/C has a PTO drive. I may put a capstan winch on it.

I haven't heard anything about Mitsubishi crate engines. Sounds interesting! I am worried about parts availability in the US. What do I do if my alternator with the vacuum pump fails?

I think I have the wiring about figured out. I still don't know what the electric thingy is on the right front of the pump, but it seems to run fine without it. It may be a temp sensor for the glow plugs. I still need a timing system for the glow plugs, maybe just a spring loaded button. Thanks for the offer of pictures but I think I need a wiring diagram!

When I picked up my 83. I dug up a couple of manuals from fleabay. Search for "Mitsubishi Truck Service Manual". The service manual will have the wiring diagrams. You can also search for "Dodge Import Parts Manual" for the complete parts manual.

I have both of these manuals. One of these days, I'm going to get my manuals scanned in and posted online. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Bill (MontyMcv) can slit them, scan them, then drill em for a binder.

I'd fire him off a PM.

Have your old alternator rebuilt.... at least that is my plan when/if mine goes out. I love my diesel.

I think lots of the JDM 5-speed diesels has a PTO off of the t-case, thats why there is a neutral option on the 5-speeds and not the automatics. you know, I haven't even looked to see if mine has it and i've owned it for 4.5 years haha. I'll have a peek when I get home. I know there was a rare factory option of a PTO winch.
