I'm in the home stretch on my Raider's diesel conversion. Does anyone know if I can keep the Raider's stock tachometer? If so, where does it hook up? On the gasser it takes its signal from the coil, but on the dieselà? If I need to get a diesel tach, though, where would the lead go? Many thanks.

You need a diesel tach. Just install it, and hook up the old tach wire to the hall effect switch on the injector pump. This is what I did, and it works great.

Thanks so much for the help! I have a diesel tach on the way. Forgive me for showing my ignorance, but what is a "hall effect switch" and where on the injector pump do I find it?

Maybe I can help you to help me. Here's a photo of my wiring set-up on the injector. I know the wire on the far right is for the fuel shut-off. Could the one on the far left be the hall effect switch for the tach? ![[Linked Image]](http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx48/rklose/Raider%20Project/InjectorWiring.jpg)

Nope... Not in that picture. It is just a rev counter on a shaft inside there. I THINK it was on the back. I will take a look and see.

Hi. Just checking in to let you know I haven't lost interest in locating the hall effect sensor. In the previous photo I had posted, someone told me that the wire on the far left is the sensor for the diesel rev counter. Is this the same thing? Sorry I'm so in the dark on this, but diesel is a brave new country for me. I'm almost done, though. Engine is in, all accessories are in place, and I've just finished wiring up the glow plugs. Diesel tach is in the mail. Many thanks for all your help.

OK. I got a picture..... just PM me your email, and I will send them to you. Maybe you can host them, and put them up on the forum.
What are you doing for an air intake? Intercooler??

I have just put a 4D56T into an '89 V6 Raider. I've been driving it around with lots unfinished, like the wiring. I've got new glow plugs coming since the ones I have don't seem to draw much current, and it starts rough and smoky.
What tach have you ordered? I put a Stewart Warner that runs off the alternator output in a Chevy Suburban Cummins 12V conversion.
My injection pump looks slightly different than yours. It looks like you have a throttle position sensor that I don't have. I have a solenoid that is located about under the radiator hose. I think it is for injection timing. I have left it disconnected while driving, since I have no idea how to run it or what difference it would make.
I replaced the timing belts. Apparently I need to time the injection pump too. The diesel is pretty slow. It may just be that way, or it may be the timing or the 6000' altitude here. I plan to add an intercooler and turn up the pump a bit. I have no idea how to adjust the pump though!
If I knew how to post pictures here I'd attach on of my injector pump. I also have a good .pdf factory service manual.

I used a factory diesel pajero instrument cluster that I got from a guy in the UK, and crossbred it with my stock US spec cluster.
