Now that's cool! we don't have those in America.. At least not that body... Is the 5.0 v8 same as the mustang 5.0? Cause If I'm right isn't commodore ford related? not very fluent with this, but I saw some of the aussie cars on Gran Turismo! Love aussie styled cars. That's where the origional design for our recent pontiac GTO came from. Sucks that we never got to see the Elcamino come over seas along with the Goat design.. in AU, it's called a Maurader or something like that.

Not quite correct.

Thge commodore is partof the Holden range which is related to General Motors. from memory that 5 litre was the last of the old 308 block that were run from the 70's (with lots of updates)until the demise and change over to the more modern 5 litre from the General motors range.

Cheers, Chris

Body Damage is Cool
We have done this before and I have posted my other trucks before so here they are again.

This is my 1961 F100 4x4 that I inherited when my Uncle past away, It has a 312 T-Bird engine, 3.89 gears with a rear Detroit locker. It has about 320,000 miles on it and everything is original except the engine which was replaced at 290,000 miles and I put in the Detriot locker. I just started the body work on it.

This is my 2005 F150 4x4. It is my wifes daily driver and used to tow our 4 wheelers. It has a 2 1/2" leveler kit in front, air bags in the rear, winter 32" BFG KOs on stock steel wheels, summer 34" Nitto's on FX4 wheels and 3.73 gears with a rear LS. It has 65,000 trouble free miles so far.

98 Jeep TJ, 4" Zone springs with RC Long arms, Ford 8.8", 4.56 gears & Detroit locker rear, D30, 4.56 & Detroit Trutrack front.

Glad you like it smile Its taken us a fair bit of work, I bought it cheap only running on 7 cylnders and after quite a few hours on the shed it purrs like a kitten at idle, and roars like a lion on revs smile

The commodore is what's called a Holden. They're a subsidiary of GM, and over in europe some Holdens (though not this one) are sold as the Vauxhaul. The engine is a de-stroked 308 from way back, with some goodies like fuel injection added. They're what we call barn-door mechanics, that is, they're simple engines, but they perform (relatively) well and they're relatively easy to work on. This one runs on duel fuel (LPG or Petrol) and running on LPG makes it very economical compared to most other cars running petrol.

The Pontiac GTO is actually just a souped up HSV (Holden Special Vehicles - The "Performance" brand of holden) version of the Monaro, they were desgined and built here, and then exported to the states.

Not quite. The "Aussie 5.0" block as its termed over here is the 308 from way back, and was used in various forms from the 308 in the early days (1978) coming in 253, 304 and 308 variants. This went on until the Series 1 VT Commodore (1998) and goodies like bigger cams, fuel injection, computer control (ugh) sequential injection, a stroked 5.7L (355) version, etc were added to the variants over the years. They never did stop using the good old distributor on this engine however. In the VT Commodore Series 2 (1999) and onwards they went on to use the Chev LS1 engine, a 5.7L v8, completely computer controlled engine as used in the Corvettes of the same era.

Edit: Here's a better pic smile
