I was driving my Runner last night, cruising on a level road at about 60mph when suddenly my engine just cut out for about 1-1 1/2 seconds, then just picked up like nothing happened. The lights, stereo etc. remained on. I thought that this might be fuel problem, so I changed the fuel filter. Then also changed the EFI relay. the next day I brought it to the dealer to check the fuel pump and regulator. The tech said both are up to specs as far as pressure. Then later that day it happened again, not as drastic as the first time, but it stumbled. Because this is an intermitten problem, the tech said it had to happen when they were driving it for it to be diagnosed. Everybody knows what that means-"leave it here, we'll joy ride when we have a chance between jobs and return it to you with an empty tank and tell you that nothing is wrong".
Does anyone have any other ideas?

I've had this same problem recently with my 2nd gen. I've found that my negative battery cable comes loose while driving. I replaced the terminal and haven't had any problems since. Hope this solves your prob.
Awesome truck by the way.

Terminals huh? Goood idea, I will check it out. Wouldn't it affect overall electrical though, like stereo, lights, etc. ?
BTW- My runner has 4" suspension, 3" body and torsions cranked just a bit.

If that turns out to be the problem, do I win a trip to go and hang out with you? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
And yeah, all my electrical goodies stayed on through the whole thing. I guess it happened so quick that they didn't have time to completely turn off.

I live on Kauai. There are still one or two places you can go, but nothing great like there used to be.

Sounds electrical... When you check out the ground (and the positive), make sure everything is nice and clean as well, no corrosion. Check both the battery connections and the termination points as well. I like scotchbrite for this, steel wool can be messy and a pain with those damn metal slivers.
After all that, just kind of poke around a bit and look / tug at all the wiring under the hood. If it's loose, you'll definitely know.
Since I've never been to Hawaii, so I'm not really up to speed, do you have any problems with salt water corrosion or are you a bit more inland? Pardon my ignorance on this one...

I agree, nice truck indeed. Umm, why 4.3 Vortec swap when a V8 350 will fit in there too (of course, plus a few minor modifications)?
