V6 front axle swap would likely be the least expensive. The parts can be sourced from a salvage yard. And it'd net you bigger brakes. Then, ARB makes a selectable air locker and there's also an Aussie locker.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

The uber rare Montero Sport leaf spring axle (start to 1999) had a locker option, and is a bolt in, although it's a tad wider than the stock axle. Ration is 4.636, which is close enough to the 4.625 of the swb...

I'v seen LSD on 97-99 leaf spring axles. 4.63 in V6 models. Some had disc rear brakes.
97 2.4s are set up like the pickups,,,2.4 V5(321 or somethen) MT and 2wd.
I like the LSD rear , just depends on what you do with it.
I'd like to have the ARB locker in the front. ARB has it available for the V6 front diff.
I wouldn't want the rear locker for mine , which is a daily driver. I'm goofy enough to engage the locker on the road and have it drive me off the edge of some curvey mtn. highway.

ARB makes a locker for the rear of the 2.6 axle. In order to lock the front, you will have to swap in a v6 front diff. That will allow you to use an ARB or aussie locker in the front.

Or..like others said, if your lucky enought to find an older sport with the locker option, swap that in.

I never had a problem with traction with an lsd that comes stock in some gen1's, especially if you preload the action of the lsd with a couple of clicks of ebrake. You can tighten it up further if you don't use lsd diff lube additive, because it makes the clutches in the lsd grippier. This can cause minor problems in a swb with an lsd, because they tend to judder around tight corners on pavement because the lsd is a touch too aggressive.

I agree,,,I use the brake lever trick and it works out great.
Only time I've ever gotten stuck was in real deep snowcone like hard compressing snow that lifted under the gas tank. The added clearnce from OME springs cured that problem.
I think LSD works good at higher speeds (you can't use a gen 2 factory locker over 12mph) on Ausie looking washboard roads and snowy roads at high range speeds.
Cheapest and easiest swap is to find M.S. LSD axle (plenty of them around) and put the V6 front in <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />with a locker.

The sr axle is quite easy to swap in from what i;ve ready. The weld on perches can be had for around 25 dollars from ddoge. I can dig up the part number.
