Surely there are a few that know about this.

original exhaust

1. I added a relay, toggle switch, coil, and sparkplug about 6-7" from the tip. Sparks good and quick. No flames because the catalytic converter is still on the car.

2. Added propane injection using a torch and a hose about 12" from the end. Removed the nozzle for a 3/16ish hole and had the regulator wide open. Still no flames.

There seems to be some steam in the exhaust(water in the muffler or gas?) that caused one spark plug to go out. Replaced with another plug.
How can I get it to ignite? A better spark? Or do I need more oxygen?

I've done this during my mis-spent youth. In the pre-cat days, we'd pull one plug wire off the engine, and extend it to near the end of the tailpipe. The unburnt charge from the the unplugged cylinder would catch fire at the rear of the tailpipe plug and blow out a good 3' flame, pulsating, freq dependent on engine speed.

I'd tune the added oxygen amount with a sleeve on the exh pipe with slots = to the tailpipe slots, and turn the sleeve to adjust the pipe opening and thus the air pulled in. You gotta hit close to stoichiometric mix to get ignition.

Not enough Oxygen because of the exhaust volume. If all else fails, hook up an Oxygen tank, that should do it.

Can't say the kit's a good one. I found it in about 1 minute after doing a google search for exhaust flame thrower diy. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

That doesn't come with a coil, plug wire, bung, or spark plug. I made a "control box" using a 5 pin relay, wiring, and switch for less than $15. If I wanted to bolt one on I would have bought a jeep. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm thinking if I gut the catalytic converter and cut the ignition it should pump enough air and fuel + propane to ignite. I keep finding dead ends when I search how to do this successfully. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
