I used a 231 from an AX-15 (manual), if you get a deal on an Auto t-case you'll need a clocking ring or someone will be hacking the input shaft down. What you are looking for is a NV241 RocktTrac with a short input shaft.

So I need to get the manual Rocktrac for the short shaft then?

Oky doky, so the manual one is the 241 but not a 4:1 unit, and the automatic one might be it but has a burnt plug....

Parts recon went down the drain today, lifters alone were $875! Now i remember why i didn't do them when i had the dealer refresh the 1994. Gasket kit was $275 so with our $300 it might be best to go with the minimum re seal the rear of the engine and probably the valve stems and call it good. New heads are $275 each plus core so i say we run these heads untill they need to be replaced.

I think updated lifters are a luxery right now, I hope I dont live to regret it. But living off un-employment.....Atleast everything else will be fresh.
No t/case yet. The little bastards are illusive. Everyone advertises a 241...but dont say that is 2:72 of course. Since we have a little time I am going to shop for a few days for bargains. 850.00 may be the floor though...

I'd place engine priorities at new valve guide seals, external seals and the front end. Never mind some noisy lifters.
As to the transfer case, can't you do that any time? Let's get this thing to 90% and get you on the trails.
