My stand came with a iron head 351 Windsor (Ford 5.8L V8) attached to it, I think it can handle it. Valve stems seals are with Clay and i know nothing of the special tool. I will however have the new flexplate and flywheel bolts soon.

DoubleW, I thought you were going to be in Moab this weekend. What happened?

John B.

I was in the Sierras, Nevada, and Southern Utah.. Everything's closed. I'm not going to get rid of the vehicle I presently drive just yet, but when it's dead I'll be picking up something >40mpg and some better hiking boots 'cause 4-wheeling is over.

I found a big Motorized Travel Prohibited sign blocking Green Mtn. Road at the North end of Beasore Rd, as well as stone "fences" and fiber "No Motorized Vehicles" posts blocking the majority of the unnamed off-shoots of Beasore where I used to hike and camp. The trail to the top of Red Top which was formerly an open fire road is now a foot trail only, with a boulder placed in the middle of the old road. Most of the hot springs South of Mono Lake are now fenced off, as are several of the roads leading to them. Hot Creek has the same parking lots it's had for years but the river and all of the springs are fenced off with signs that threaten citation if you cross the fence. The old mining capillaries on 375 West of Rachel, NV are now fenced or have fiber "ROAD CLOSED" posts. The river area of Paria, UT is all off limits now, including the road that used to follow the river and the road over to the old town ruins. Many of the other roads in that area, whose names I don't know - all closed. All travel in the "Moon" area of Escalante National Monument is restricted to Smoky Mountain Road and Left Hand Collet Canyon road has what looks like a permanent "ROAD CLOSED" sign at the upper end. I did not see the lower end. I'm sick of seeing signs everywhere I go. Signs look like litter to me and I have a "pack it out" policy on that.

Somewhat related, Zion park is now completely overrun and impossible to enjoy, sorry I don't want to wait in line to get on an articulated bus with 500 other people so I can hear David Van Driessen recite the history of the park for 55 minutes as I ride to the trailhead where I'm greeted by a thousand signs telling me precisely what I'm not allowed to do everywhere I look.

Frustrating vacation to say the least..

I hauled the engine to my house on Saturday and went earlier this morning to picked up the engine hoist so I can get this thing out of the back of my gen 1. I'm gonna start getting it undressed through out this week, first thing I gotta do is pick up some bolts from the local hardware store so I can get this pig up on the stand. The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that neither one of the engine stands I have will support this thing. This motor is ridiculously heavy, I'm sure it will be ok though, hopefully. Adam I also need those valve stem seals and did you ever contact that guy for the special tool? If not I can work with what I have. Also next weekend I think I'm gonna go pick up that other engine so I can snag parts off of it. If the oil pan needs to be swapped then I need a gasket. Are we gonna replace the back cam seals since I have to pull all of this apart? I also have the new crank bolt and rear main seal that was in back of the truck. I'm sure there could be more as I start digging and pulling things apart so I will just keep updating everything. Also, I'm pretty sure this motors butterfly valves were replaced or ok??? I Cant remember, toast? Oh and do I send my bill to toasty? I kid I kid. Lloyd if you have any questions let me know, I think I have your number but I'll pm you mine.

I'll try and post pics as I go to. No promises though
i rent the tool to change the vss on the car i also have the seals and a center intake with the butterflys removed

it dosent have to be surrounded by water to be an island

Of course, the more you close, the more other areas get over run. Our hobby will end, as will almost all outdoor hobbies eventually. Sad to hear. I never checked out those areas of the Sierras, never had the time. Surprised about Left Hand Collet and the Paria Town Site. Even though some trails remain open, I know what gets your goat AND mine, is these closures limit the ability to simply explore historical trails/ historical sites, and get away from the crowds. Just more of the demise of America.

This is sad to hear. Sorry your vacation was so lousy. I too have a "leave it better than you found it" policy. More of your tax dollars at work supporting the eco-mentalists thinking they know how you should live your life better than you do. What a shame.

Lukily AZ has a ton of wheeling still and they cannot close it all, the good thing is that the trails that will stay open require a pass of some type, they are very clean and maintained and they are generally no fun on a dirt bike .
I liked wheeling out in Florance and doing the martenez trail but all the traffic out there made it less enjoyable and the trails are trashed. Even though Florance area requires a BLM permit it's not enforced, that's why i think the trails run by the City of Mesa are the best in the valley (if only they'd put a monthy password on the rolls recreation area).

Sorry for the hijack let's make a new post
