Ok, made it back, ready to go to the shop in the morning. Kevin swung by and the CURRENY engine noise he does not note as severe, but it was much worse yesterday when we shut it down. Astonishingly it was also 1.5Qts low on oil! No leaks, how in the hell did that happen?

Maybe those italian lifters can't take the High RPM's of the Montero? I lost 2 lifters in my 2.3 TD, makes a ton of noise and barely runs but damage is minimal Motor wise. It's apples to oranges though my dismal being mech lifters but either way same end result.

Body Damage is Cool
Sounds similar to Jay's situation a couple years ago driving his SR from Albuquerque to Phoenix.

The difference is, later we realized Jays did not have enough power. On the other hand I was cruising 83 un-loaded and 75 loaded until the timing jumped with 37's. God I hope those "improved" lifters are not going to give me trouble

Sorry on the problems Lloyd ..

That motor has a Mitsu "rubber bladder" cam belt tensioner ...I never reuse one ... And dig in my Mitsu's every few years and replace them ..Know matter what the mileage is ... The rubber inside one will rot over time and really rots out west where we live ...Hope the motors OK and its just something easy...

Hopefully not, I think they could sense how pissed I was and were getting right on it. Hopefully I will hear something soon.

They are saying timing belt is ok, so now we are into $$$$. The issue is cylinder one. They are trying to diagnose now. I am guessing something bad is going on with that cylinder...we shall see shortly.

Engines junk. Low compression cylinder 1 and 2 metal in the pan, so it is over. Zillion dollar rebuild is out. I have to assume at this point this engine was always a disaster, since it was rebuilt under warranty as well.

there aren't even words for how much that sucks...

well, take a breather, you have a hell of a platform and this is just a setback.
