Well, we had to roll down the windows because I turned the A/C off and I have never heard anything like that. If cars pulled up next to you the noise was so loud reflected back that it could seriously cause hearing damage! I have heard a LOT of bad engines in my life, but nothing like that.

Worse than that time Pat and I were blasting Metallica at number 11 out on the trail and you stopped the group to see who had a spun bearing?

WORSE then that. I know I exaggerate sometimes, but this was horrific.

I remember a wheeling trip where I was in front of LT a ways, and when he came pulling up behind me I thought he had serious engine damage going on because of the sounds.

Nope. His music.

Good luck, Lloyd. I know you'll get 'er done somehow.

This is likely to be a very long time. Probably need to protect the tires and such. What I will be looking for once we save some money, is like a new engine some dealer had sitting around for years trying to get 92,000.00 for and finally decides to sell it......Or some other engine we can identify as like new, not swallowed butterflys, been rebuilt by the local 350V8 engine rebuilder....If the stars align this summer we may concern buying something new we can do easy trails in until the day we can find that magical engine. We shall see. Keep your eye out...

I thought I heard bad things about JDM? So this is one of the fabled low mileage throw away Japanese engines? Still need plenum work, valve seals likely, key, ect. But if its that low mileage....How fast can you guys swap a 3.5 ? I know its faster then a head job?

I don't know a whole lot about jdm. All I know is all there engines are really low miles. With low miles like that you shouldn't have to do valve stem seals. Maybe a timing belt and in she goes. Call jdm and find out the details on it. Google says it's about a 9 hour drive for you and 650 miles one way. If your feeling motivated enough you can make that drive there and back in a day.
