See if that price is there bottom line. And find out the exact mileage on it. They may be able to move on the price if your picking it up.

The thing is I have business in Dallas in July anyhow...Means no Silverton at the 4th, but we don't have the money now anyways. It pains me to ask this, but do you think you guys could help with an engine swap? Seems like other then engine we could do it on the cheap. We have a new timing belt and pump after all....And with out tearing down we don't have the zillions of dollars in seals and other parts.

JDM is a gamble, hold out for a legitimate low milage engine that you can inspect. Or maybe a new one will turn up at a reasonable price.

Isn't the Hyundai RWD Lambda v6 a swap candidate? 'cause... you can pick those up here in the US with like 10k miles on them and I bet it's a massive leap in reliability - the little the 3.3L one in old sorentos is good for 270 horsepower and 235lbs torque and I'm pretty sure it only goes up from there. Hyundai has crate engines now too but $6k for the turbo 2.0 (with turbo) and $10k for the 3.8 Lambda is undoubtedly outside of budget - but damn a zero mile crate motor would mean butter smooth reliability even with a Wild Loyd behind the wheel.

I might be down for a swap like that. Would have to get a harness and computer, which is the bad part, especially for install. Also the torque curve may not be ideal for off road.
As far as low mileage JDM vs one I find somewhere else, which would be hard to find, what is the difference. I doubt either will be hooked up to run, both I can look at in person. Would be nice to start up. The last time I looked for a used 3.5 I was able to fire one up locally that was in "great condition".(barely started) Wow, it was completely destroyed, butterflys swallowed AND crank pulley falling off. Those unfortunately are the standards of a 3.5. Most people have no clue about the ticking time bombs. BUT, WE DO and we still ruined a perfectly good engine due to a couple of last pressed in bushings that fell out. That will never happen again, but regardless its so hard to know if an engine lunched the butterflys, and most have by now.

176,000 Kilometers on the one they have....that's too high, surely has choked down some butterflys by now.
By the way one of the newer Mitsu engines had butterflys again, and the dealer says they are ruining motors yet again

Stacey's SHO (Yamaha engine) has butterfly secondary runners that kick in at 4000rpm - damn you can feel it, too!! - and at 20 years and 198,000 miles there's still no indication that they would ever come loose or stop being awesome....

No doubt you can engineer a system that works, Mitsubishi has just chose not to apparently. These Japanese low mileage engines may be the way to go, and just install an updated plenum(which occasionally fails also I hear). Waiting on a call back from a place that sells them in Paonia....
