hey all, just got some bad news.... wife called and out montero, had some issues. seems like our harmonic blanacer went out and the bolt broke off. so it needs to be drilled out and such.... maybe a new gear? depending on if its bad. she called a mobile mechanic instead of driving it to a shop, it was offcenter and he tryed to fix on the spot and the bolt broke off. mecanic says the pin that holds it in place needs to be replaced. sooo depressed. i have to get it towed to the shop, and get it fixed, how much do you guys think it will be. got 135k on the engine, thinking of doing a engine swap so to start fresh..... there goes the OME and ARB money $$$$$ any opinions?????

what year and model montero/engine? You should add it to your signature so you don't have to always say when you post questions.

The balancer may or may not have damaged the nose of the crankshaft. Roughly 60-70% not-ish. If so, you'll need a harmonic balancer, the lastest model new improved crank bolt and belville washer for the bolt, and a front crank seal. Might as well do the timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley, and water pump and water pump rear o ring while you have it that far apart. Dumb not to, as all that is at least due for a change. There's also a good argument for putting in new camshaft seals. I would NOT do a whole new engine at that mileage. These engines will give you 300k if you take care of them, except for the valve stem seals and water pump and timing belt (about 60K miles intervals on all but the seals - 100k or thereabouts on those).

I'd do the belt again, but the tensioner and idler are probably good if they were done at 115k - the belt is 1/3 gone, and it's cheap insurance. It's a lot of labor to get in there to the seal, so it's smart to do it all, just like you replace a clutch every time you get a chance. The labor is much more expensive than the parts.

ok, so finnaly got a tow pulled it by chain up the basement parking. took it to a mechanic, crankshaft pully broke they cant reach it. got to drill it out and replace seals 1 gear, timing belt, etc... so far worst case senario $1800-2000. depending on how long it would take to drill it out. about 500-600 in parts. rest or course in labor.
any opinions? makes me want to sell her after. i feel cheated on.. damn i got her for 4000.

Bummer. IMHO selling the truck after having that work done makes no sense. Any truck you buy will likely need the TB changed at the very least. This may hurt now but your truck is likely to serve you well if you look after it. These truck appreciate new parts.
I agree with Eddy re the tensioner and pulleys. Make sure the belt is a good one (Gates or Conti). Personally, I think a Mitsu belt is worth the money on an engine with that mileage.
