The clutch should heal from the water. The brushes in your starter probably stuck, they can be freed up. If you plan to play in water, tape over the water drains in the bottom of the doors. A little silicone on the door seals and if the rear seat is out put the bolts back in the floor so you do not have 4 little geysers back there. As with running all your driveline vents up to the top of the firewall, those of up with distributors, run a vent for it as well and coat or seal all the electrics. You should be able to wade in frighteningly deep water with a dry interior and drive home with no issues.
I have crossed quite a few rivers where I had to close the up stream windows so the water would not wash in. Very interesting driving when you negotiate the boulders by feel. I would say my Red Gen 1 has logged hours of headlight deep water, never a problem other than blown fuses in the electric fans at first. Once they had separate 30A fuses for each fan that was no longer a problem.

1st it helps to be retired and have a second vehicle. I no longer have AC so I mounted it above the fan to heater duct. I relocated the main relay up there, too. I lost one of those to extreme green internal corrosion. On the wireing I lengthen 1 wire and , for neatness, shorten 5 fires. You can pickup a second wireing harness to move it somewhere further away. Important to use the right colorcoded wires, you don't want to make a mistake here.

Only problem I'm still having is the intermitant non functioning starter. I'll take it apart and dry it out. The clutch I figure was just acting the same effects as shoe brakes. Not slipping just a jerk. I really don't plan on deep water driving , I was just messin' around. Didn't get deep enought to inhale water into anything but the front diff. My door gaskets leak. I don't have carpet or much of anything but books and magazines on the floor. My tools and parts are in well gasketed ammo cans. I knocked the 4, 2" metal plugs out of the floor and replaced them with red plastic plumbing type expantion plugs. This enables me to hose all the Husky hair out of the truck.
