lotta rain here. Thought I'd try out Grampa's pond,,,an low area on a local road that fills up in the spring. About 2 1/2 feet deep , just enough to fill the cabin about 3". I guess starter motors don't like that much of a drink... Glad I relocated my ECU a few years back.

I went wheelin with a someone who had a manual Monty years back. He went through some decently deep mud and had chatter/slippage issues after that. I think he ended up cleaning things through the inspection hole in the bellhousing. Either that or dopping the trans, either way it sucked.

I'm glad that I've got an automatic. I've had mine in that deep of water, and my problems seem to be electrical from the fan throwing water on everything electrical.

I'm thankful that my Monty leaks so much oil. Everything is encased in a hydrophobic sarcophagus that eliminates any potential water failure.

Ive had water over the hood several times for a decent amount of time (driving through floods) and not a single issue, I also have an automatic I sealed off so that might be the key difference.

I accidentally drove my Montero through 4 feet deep salt water, but had no problems with the starter. The salt water in the valleys between the cams caused the ignition system to short out, but no starter problems. The water in the cabin completely shorted out the power seat relays and motors, the power door lock solenoids, the locking rear differential air pump, CD changer, and the ABS control module, but no starter problems.

I have been trying to relocate the ecu on my 89 raider but the wires aren't long enough. How and where did you put it?

Bah, you simpletons with "ECU's" and "ignition systems", if you all had Benz diesels you'd be driving through it like nothing!
I need a snorkel now... just because...
