Does anyone know what the black connector with the black with white stripe wire located just aft of the coil connects to? This connector breaks out of the harness about halfway down the wheelwell right by the coil and is only about an inch long.
John

That's so stupid. Why don't you download the manual and look it up? Can't you use the search function? Dang newbs...

The 2BW wire shown in the wiring diagrams and harness diagrams goes to the coil ballast resistor bottom terminal, to power the coil in ign run position. This is a fairly fat black/white stripe wire. The connector on the end of the wire shows in the diagrams the same as the 2BR wire that goes straight to the coil + or top of the ceramic resistor for dropped coil voltage during ign start position. THe 2BW wire should be hot at ign run, dead at ign start, and dead at off and acc (I think).

Look at 8-36 and 8-38 and -39 in the 87 fsm, also look at the engine compartment harness diagram second page for possible other suspects. The connector number on the harness diagram is the same as the connector number on the wiring diagram, a43 I think. Legend tells you what the connector is for. Harness diagrams are just before the wiring diagrams, and engine compartment is one of the first ones.

way to short to go to the coil.

It connects to a wire lead from the AC compressor clutch.

Dang it then that leaves another connector. I'll get a photo tomorrow. The compressor is not installed yet.

You might try checking that wire for voltage when the ac switch is on, but you may have to short around the low pressure limit switch in the ac lines somewhere, pside core support maybe, to get power to that wire - it's at the end of a chain of relays and various safety switches (I think it shares the tranny od ground temp switch as one of the relay coil grounds). including the fan switch, too, in the compressor clutch power path.

On page 8=57 look at connector a45, also on the harness illustration on 8-29. It's a hair smaller than average .85BW wire, too. Note it's power path on 8-57, from the ac relay thru the low limit switch to power the magnetic clutch, the condesor blower relay, and the condenser blower. a45 looks like it breaks out of the wire bundle that has the wire for all the water temp gizmos, maybe 5" back on the bundle.

Look in the fsm at pages 8-29, at connector a40, listed on page 8-28 as condensor fan motor relay. Thats the fan infront of the a/c condensor/radiator, and I think it's relay is thereabouts.

Looks like A-45 to me as well. Went out and looked at wiring. The BW from the clutch connected to A45 clamps to the top of a compressor and goes to the clutch as the wire closer to the vehicle center line. The other wire at the clutch, closer to the fender, is the ground wire and is also clamped to the compressor. I haven't traced the ground path.

I didnt realize there were two wires on the compressor. That would be what the other connector is for then.
Thanks
