Try AAA. I thought they would be the highest out there, but they came in with the lowest price and the most coverage.
I'm and old guy with a good record so that might have influence them.

I am afraid of Progressive. The body shops around here say to stay clear of them. I will look into AAA, not familiar with their insurance system. I am in my later 50s so I am of little risk other than to some deer.
I will be at Pocono raceway on the 15th -17th for the NASA pro race with the EVO 8 I support. We might be arriving Thursday night. Then about a month break till we go out to Mid Ohio raceway for the first of two visits there.

Charlie, I've been with Traveler's and their subsidiaries for almost 15 years. Their service has been great and claims have been handled expeditiously. I try to find a better price every few years, to no avail. I'm prior service, so I'm eligible for USAA. When I bought my house 2 years ago, I tried them for all policies (home, auto, & personal umbrella). The guy I talked to at USAA asked me to fax my declarations pages to him because he couldn't believe the prices I was telling him for the coverages I was getting. I did and he said thank you Mr Phelps for your consideration of USAA, but there's no way we can touch these prices. I didn't know what to say
My mom and Dad were with State Farm til my Dad passed. She's since moved everything to Traveler's. Saving a couple hundred a year with better coverages.
I also like that they're handled thru local independant agents. I have the cell phone numbers of everybody at "my" agents office. I haven't dialed an 800 number for anything insurance related in years...
Seriously, I can't find enough good things to say about them...
Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

Uh, I need some parts...
USAA and Amica have consistently been 1-2 in customer satisfaction for eons. Amica is a true mutual company, owned by the policy holders, so it's a little more expensive the first year, but after that, you earn dividends based on company profitability that offset premium costs to some extent. Ends up being a tad cheaper than most with the dividend credit.

I get a dividends check every year, and despite my unfortunate car accident (first claim ever) my accident forgiveness took care of me, and I still got a dividend worth more than half my insurance payment for that month at the end of last year. I'm sold on USAA insurance and they are more than fair. (just wish those commerce, GA cops were... ) Charlie, I hope you get taken care of.

Body Damage is Cool
|
There's your answer - when I was working in a bodyshop as an estimator, it was really nice to see a car come in with either of those companies as the insurer. Progressive would send shivers up your spine and make you want to call in sick when the estimator showed up to write it up. I had pretty good luck with State Farm - so much so that my personal insurance is currently through them (I don't qualify for USAA and Amica was too much money) - but that can vary by area depending on the temperament and attitude of the Regional Manager. Has your Montero been torn down for a complete estimate yet? If it hasn't been then your insurance is probably estimating a supplement to their original estimate of an additional 25-50% for hidden damage that won't be apparent until the vehicle is disassembled. Once the outer sheetmetal has been removed and the inner structure is exposed and visible they can usually write up an estimate that'll be pretty close to the final cost of repairs. You would have to authorize the bodyshop to tear it down, keeping in mind that the cost of the teardown labor will have to be paid to the bodyshop if the vehicle does end up a total loss -if it gets repaired then it's just part of the repair labor. It sounds like you need to get in touch with the adjuster who is handling your vehicle and do some negotiating with him - there are a lot of ways that you can reduce the insurance company's cost in order to get your Montero fixed instead of totaled. If you have another vehicle to drive make sure the adjuster knows that you won't need a rental vehicle while it's being repaired (that's several hundred dollars off the cost of the claim) , request used parts instead of new (they fit better than aftermarket parts), and offer to help locate them if the bodyshop can't (you've got connections). Feel free to PM me if you have any questions that I could help you with.

You know, this is the second time in a month USAA has appeared for me personally. (I'm eligible). Looks like it's time to start shopping. I haven't had to use insurance for years (knock on wood) but a break in rates would sure help out right now. Hope you get things worked out. I know what its like to be inop at the moment.
