Sorry to see this. Total crap. and you did not even get the deer. I'd have strapped that dude up top after a quick gut job. Looked cool outside.

My wife was shaken pretty well and did not want to see the deer, It was over an hour before we went back there and the deer was gone, I hope someone got it rather than it running off.

I finally got through to the insurance, this is covered under Comp, no problems. I drove over to a bodyshop I work with and he wants the adjuster to look over the truck there rather than at my place. The estimate will be done properly this way.
So much for a run to Conn with a trailer late this week, guess the old Mighty Max will be brought out again.

Cheers, Charlie

Tough luck, Charlie.

About 40 years ago an auto insurance agent gave me some advice on deer strikes that I have not needed, but will pass along in case you need it:

Many policies do not pay for collisions with animals, but do pay for damage caused by falling objects. If you find this to be the case, you should make certain the adjuster understands that the deer had passed the trajectory peak of his/her leap and was on the way toward Earth when the collision occurred, thereby becoming a falling object.

Seriously........

This was tried in court and the deer was found to satisfy the definition of a falling object. Whether the precedent is now included in coverage or not, I don't know.

Frank

My SR was looked at by the insurance adjuster today. They are totaling it. I am interested to see what the numbers are and how my buyout will be on this. I sure have no desire to give up on this rig.

Talk to your adjuster and tell him that you'd rather not have it totalled. Most of the time there's a certain amount of leeway involved in declaring a vehicle a total loss - letting him know that you'd rather fix it if possible could swing the decision your way. Ask if the estimate was prepared with used parts (used OEM parts are far better than aftermarket), if he was not able to find any you might be able to help out by locating some yourself (adjusters don't usually spend a lot of time searching). If you really want to keep the vehicle, see if some minor things could be omitted from the estimate that you could do yourself (antenna mast, driving lights?). You might be willing to procure the Euro headlamps for the repair and have that cost removed from the estimate also.

Good info, Right now they are coming up with a price for my buyout. I will see if they are willing to just cap the repair cost and not total it.

I cannot believe they are totaling it, insurance companies are a total ripoff .

I too had my encounter with a deer but on my 2004 Triumph Speed Triple special edition. It resulted in 3 months out of the office, broken right wrist, broken right toes, broken left elbow and 3rd * burn to my left back tight but TTG. Three surgeries, in a month, later and the precious titanium metal I am back in one piece. Still at 85% of full recovery but I am alive, in good health and recuperating fast.
Now, I swear that if I ever, God forbid, hit one with my Monty I will run over it again and again and again on 2H, 4H, 4L and I can care less on what PETA has to say about it

I am glad you are OK. Don't let the insurance total it because if you decide to keep it it might cause title and other insurance related issues in the future.

Don't total tat baby.
my ins. case is a little different cause somebody hit me. My ins. came in 1st and offered me a total and I could buy it back. Never do that in CA if your gonna keep it. Same offer from her Ins. co. I said no and waited. Told them of my investments. Got another 700 out of them.
If you total here and buy back you get a salvage title and have to get inspection and headlight aim at a contracted out station. It cost $$$ alot here$$$ to do it. If that's the case there your better to settle for less money , you'll be ahead in the long run.
This is a great chance for custom bumpers , etc.

Hi guys, time to bring this up from the swamps. I have a few days of reduced workload so I can tend to things before I get back to prepping for the next track event which will be at Pocono in two weeks.
State Farm has really sucked and I feel the need to move on to another company. I have not been able to get the truth from anyone at the company and it is clear they just wanted to total my Montero even though two body shops wrote the repair far more accurately and did not come close to totaling.

There was a thread about insurance companies in the recent past but I can not find it. I would like to get others opinions as to who to call for quotes for either my cars or even to move my homeowners to which at this time is with Liberty Mutual whom I do not trust.

Cheers, Charlie
